We're still havin' fun

Here's how sadly conditioned by TV I am: Sometimes when I hear a song from my past, I don't remember listening to it on the radio, I remember it in some weird TV context, like when I hear "Still the One" I think of that promo campaign for ABC.

The fun Franklin Avenue Weblog (not named for the "Franklin Avenue" in Mpls, this is referencing a street in L.A.) linked to the 1979 version. We're still havin' fun, and you're still the one!

I don't remember the NBC 1984 promo that appears after it on Franklin Avenue AT ALL.

On YouTube, I found a 1977 version of the "Still the One" promo, and I think that is the one I remember, though unlike its 1979 counterpart, it doesn't rhyme "from L.A. to New York" to "for 'Angie' and 'Mork'." Damn, I loved Donna Pescow's "Angie." Now that's a show that should be on DVD.

    Maybe it shows a generation gap (sorry!), but when I hear that song I think of the Buerger King commercial for the Whopper, where they used LOTS of different songs for the campaign - I remember they also used Modern English, "Melt With You"

    This is just spooky. Earlier today I heard "Still the One" on my iPod (shut up) and I immediately thought of that campaign too. Seriously.

    I am only slightly embarrassed to say that the 1979 version used to make me cry when I'd see it. I was so ABC's bitch.

    Now, if I could find the "Being Yourself" video from that same era, I would be able to live in peace.

    "Melt With You" is now being used in a car commercial, which does not quite make sense to me.
