Oh, the doo-dah day

When I'm burping Kelly, if there's music playing, I find myself patting her little back in tune to whatever song is on.

If no music is on, I find myself burping her to the tune of "Camptown Races," only with these lyrics:

The Camptown Kellys sing this song, Kelly, Kelly
Camptown racetrack five miles long, oh, the Kelly day
Gwine to run all night, gwine to run all day
I bet my money on the Kelly, somebody bet on the Kell. E.

I cannot really explain this myself.

  1. I've been known to sing that to anything that fits the rhyme scheme: "Sally Jessy Raphael, doo-dah, doo-dah..."

Deck the Halls with boughs of Jakey, Jakey Bells, Jakey had a little lamb, etc.
I think this is a fairly common Mommy thing.

I don't know if you remember Phoebe singing "Smelly Cat" on Friends. Whenever I changed stinky diapers, I would find myself singing Smelly Butt, Smelly Butt, what are we feeding you. New mother insanity is the only way to explain it!

Learned when watching the nephews if you pat a kid's back to 'Wipeout', they'll belch like champions.

Bad Gods has a hysterical "DDN" news server you can download as well.

I agree. It's a mom thing. I started singing "You are my sunshine, my Jonnie Sunshine. . ." to my son 11 years ago, and he still likes it.

I sing "Lindsay-pop" to the tune of "Lollipop" for my youngest--now that she's almost 2, she can make the "pop" sound at the end of the chorus.
