Star-spangled cakes

I love these star-spangled cakes. Cake Wrecks usually features horrible cakes, but these are breathtaking ones.

I especially love the ones that you cut into and then see the hidden flag inside.

Y? Because we have no clue what we're doing!

Every once in a while I have to link to Cake Wrecks, and when Mark Lawler tweeted this collection of really deformed Mickey Mouse cakes, I knew it was time.

Some of these actually aren't terrible cakes, but they really don't look that much like Mickey Mouse. Maybe Mickey Stepped-On Frog.

Actually, this is a better link: Cakes with the word "birthday" somehow mangled.

Happy Birdholq! Happy Bipthday! Happy 1st Birt! Happy Barthy.

For our 10th anniversary, Rob and I went to Seattle's most expensive (probably) restaurant. The Herbfarm. They put a little picture frame on our table and inside it they wrote, in calligraphy, "Happy 10th Anniversay Rob and Gael!"

All Cakes Considered

I love this: "All Things Considered" producer Melissa Gray started bringing in a homemade cake to work every Monday, and it turned into a cookbook, "All Cakes Considered."

Which I might just have to buy, not only because I love the story behind it, but because thee recipes look just awesome (if fattening).

I know from personal experience how crazy newsroom denizens go for any homemade baked goods, and I've just been recently informed by a co-worker that it's time I start baking more again.

I'll smash this one in your face willingly

I love Cake Wrecks, and knew they had a book coming out, but Linda linked to their page of wedding cakes, and oh, man, is it hilarious.

That limbless, headless bride surveying her domain...ohhhhh!

Come on, Barbie, let's go party

I never got one of those weird Barbie bell-bottom birthday cakes, where Barbie's head, torso, and arms stick out of a cake that's frosted to look like a Southern Belle ballgown skirt.

And you know, after seeing some of them on Cake Wrecks, maybe that's not a major miss in my life. I just love the white and pink one, where Barbie is apparently drawing back in horror from the fact that her lap is on fire.

Bacon cake

This bacon cake is so realistic looking it glistens as if with grease. It kind of makes me shudder. I love cake, but I don't think I could have a piece of this. Apparently even the cutting board is edible!

(Via Web-Goddess, who like PCJM, has a Matt-from-Scrubbles designed header--in fact, that's where I got the idea!)
