Got to have a special sunny afternoon dog at Chicago's Superdawg with good friends a few years back. The founder died this weekend. There are a lot of regional treasures in America, and Superdawg is certainly one. Sorry, New York, but I think Chicago has the best hot dogs in the world.

Worst restaurant meal ever?
This Long John Silver's fish and onion rings meal has 33 g of trans fat, 19 g saturated fat, 3700 mg of sodium and 1320 calories.
I don't think we even have a Long John Silver's around me. Growing up, fish fast-food was definitely the redheaded stepchild of fast-fooderies. We did have Arthur Treacher's for a while--think they served their fish and chips in fake London newspapers which we kids thought the coolest thing possible.
The late Heather O'Rourke, child star of "Poltergeist," did a Long John Silver's ad once.

Have never had a McFlurry, but these international flavors are so wild. Black licorice! Lime! Ovaltine! Kit Kat and strawberries!

Cravers Hall of Fame
I love this: White Castle has a Cravers Hall of Fame, honoring giant fans of their tiny burgers as well as people like the makers of "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle."
I wonder if they still make those Slider candles, that supposedly smell like the little oniony burgers...

Like eating a lot of meals with a really cool friend
So I stumbled across the blog Immoveable Feast, and now all I want is for everyone to leave me alone for as long as it takes to read every single entry.
It's written by Justin in Pasadena, and he likes to review his meals. Whether they're fast food, fancy restaurant, Trader Joe's frozen entrees or something he cooked up himself (this guy knows how to make a sauce), the entries are often hilarious and always fun to read. I especially liked this one on Shanghai McNuggets (remember those? they may have to be a GenXtinct entry) and this one where he tests and compares a metric ton of fast-food condiments.
People, this is why the Internet was invented.

Burp
Ordering everything on the In N Out Burger Super Secret Menu. (Oh, and their regular menus as well.)
I love the slideshow, including the Neapolitan shake.

I could teach you but I'd have to charge
Actual Tweet from Chik Fil A: "New milkshake flavor coming Monday: Banana Pudding! It's like drinking ur grandma's recipe thru a straw! Ur going to luv it."
The nearest Chik Fil A is 80 miles from me, but just the thought of drinking banana pudding through a straw kinda of makes me want to ralph.

Call in the Pizza Marines!
Apparently, Subway was originally called Pete's Submarines, but radio ads made it sound like Pizza Marines, so they switched to Pete's Subway. And the rest is history, but I still think "Pizza Marines" is an awesome restaurant name.

No more Baby Burgers

Aw, looks like my childhood A&W (Little Canada, MN) was one of this guy's four franchises, and is now closed. There's been an A&W there since at least the early 1970s. Not the best food in the land, but I loved the icy root beer and the kid-size mugs.

Onions or cabbage?
I love this: Rob told me he was informed by someone that the dried onions on White Castle hamburgers were really just cabbage soaked in onion juice. (Good Lord, if they have the onions to get the JUICE, why not just dice the onions??)Anyway, it's apparently false. But so prevalent that White Castle even addresses it in their FAQ.
This reminds me that I always (kind of) mean to buy one of those slider-scented candles at Christmas time, and I never do. Which is probably good, because I can only imagine that they reek.

Taco Bell gives up
Taco Bell has apparently just given up. Fritos in their burritos? (Yes, I know about Frito pie, but come on!)

Not exactly as advertised
Fast food reality does not look anything like the ads! Big shock, I know. Also, bartenders look nothing like the sexy models in beer ads!

Putting the junk in junk food
What happens when a Big Mac meets a Filet o Fish, a McChicken, and an Egg McMuffin.
THIS.
YUCK.

Halloween tacos and Thanksgiving potato chips
Taco Bell now has a taco with a black shell. GrubGrade is a fun site that reviews food items, and it's definitely going on my bookmark list.
Moving ahead to Thanksgiving, there are already turkey and stuffing flavored potato chips.

In the UK, which...doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving, but...whatever. It works for Christmas, too. And it found me another fun food blog, Foodstuff Finds, this one from the UK.

Secret fast food
Now of course I knew about the In N Out secret menu, although do they really cook the animal-style patties in mustard? If so, Rob's never been able to taste it when he orders his that way.But here's a slideshow of other fast fooderies' secret menus. I dare you to go to McDonald's and order a Neapolitan shake! Apparently it's a shake that's squirted into the cup by thirds--one-third strawberry, one-third vanilla, and one-third chocolate.
The Meat Cube from Wendy's, however, is just nasty.

Why wrap a sandwich in bread when you can wrap it in chicken?
Oh, KFC. You try hiding the "FRIED" in your name, but you canna' hide the CRAZY.
