Time passages

Apparently, phone companies are doing away with letting you call for the time, at least in most states. Looks like Nevada and parts of California are the only holdouts.

Remember the old "at the tone, the time will be..."? Remember being a kid and calling it just because you were bored, and because you could?

Little parts of our memories get away from us every day and we don't even realize it. Non-important things, perhaps, but still things that were a part of our everyday lives and then just sailed off into the sunset. (Via Scott B.)

I never knew that popcorn was a northern CA thing. I thought the national number was pop-corn too.

Wow. WOW. I haven't thought about calling for the time in AGES. In our part of Ohio, it was Time & Temperature: 673-9811 (9817 if it was busy). In the summer, my mom wouldn't let us go swimming unless it was 75 degrees, so we'd call it every morning.

It was a cheerful man's voice.
"The time is... eight seventeen. The temperature is... eighty-eight degrees."
