Boston, Mass, OH-2-ONE-3-FOUR! Send it to ZOOM!

I loved "ZOOM" as a kid, with all the crazy striped-shirt-wearing kids running around speaking Ubbi-Dubbi and making weird recipes that were simple and strange, but always looked appealing.

They made a new version, and I think I watched the first episode or two back when it came out, but haven't seen it since.

I always remember a filmed segment that I think was on "Zoom," about two best friends in England who had these hoppity-hop horses and hopped around some walled garden where they had like a fantasy world going on. At least, that's how I remember it...but heck if I know if it was really "Zoom" or some other show. I'd love to see it again, that's for sure.

The "ZOOM" Wikipedia entry is pretty fun, though. Some of the original 1970s ZOOMers went on to some amazing things. Check out the entry for Edith: "showed genius in mathematics at an early age, won prestigious academic awards in math as a university undergraduate, and went on to earn a Ph.D. in mathematics from MIT. Her father was the late legendary computer pioneer Dr. Calvin Mooers."

Yowza! It kind of makes Maura, who comes after her in the list and of whom it says only "was last known to be an Amtrak conductor," look puny by comparison. Not that there's anything wrong with being an Amtrak conductor! Hey, I still can't even speak a full sentence in Ubbi-Dubbi without messing up.

Wow, I kind of remember the hoppy horse thing.

I'm such a geek, I have BOTH of the ZOOM books--the Zoom Catalog, and the Do-A-Zoom book. No hoppy horses in either, I looked.
