Shameless plug

The book about lost pop culture that I'm writing with my friend Brian Bellmont is still a year away from publication, but we're hoping to build an audience for it, and hope you'll forgive my occasional shameless plug.

If you're on Facebook, we have a fan page that often has some fun discussions.

And we update our blog, Genxtinct.com, daily with retro items about the 1970s and 1980s, from news to random memories. A few recent favorites:

--Kool-Aid Man...OH YEAH! He had an Intellivision game? OH NO!

--Tough times for Gary Coleman and Leif Garrett. How we wanted to be them when we were kids! Richard Cory syndrome, anyone?

--Awesome clip from The Carpenters variety show. So many, many times I've wished I could go back and somehow save Karen Carpenter from anorexia. Like that's even possible.

--Giggles Cookies! Look at the box and the commercial! Does no one but me even remember these puppies? Man, I thought we'd get some comments on this post but perhaps I am the only one who ever ate these.

--Weird movie-theater snacks from around the world. (Japan wins!) I really thought this might spark a fun discussion about what your parents let you eat when you first started going to movies as a kid. But not. Maybe I was the only one who didn't even realize eating in theaters was a real option?

Giggles!! I got onto the page, saw the picture, and am utterly freaking out!! They tasted terrible and looking back, they're super creepy, but I used to LOVE them!

I remember Giggles, too. They came with stickers, if I remember correctly.

I remember these too. What I remember most about them is that they got stale and mushy very quickly.
