For BETTER

Well, this is an odd week in "For Better or For Worse" land, no?

First that Sunday strip that made no sense, then a totally juicy Monday strip, and now an oddly 1950s-esque sexist stranger, complete with orange hair, shows up outta nowhere. (Women drivers! Now there's a fresh topic!) Also, how come all of Mike's friends own these massive businesses and are practically millionaires at 30, yet he and Deanna can barely afford their own apartment?

But if you know me, you know it's Monday's strip that had me cackling. Why can't Liz find a man she didn't date in high school? How come Anthony and Gordo both look older than John Patterson? In what part of Canada are 1970s porn-star mustaches still popular? Why does Lynn Johnston hate French-Canadians enough to make evil Therese one?

There are serious questions, too, like why would Anthony marry a woman so hateful in the first place? What kind of couple agrees to have a baby even though one of them doesn't want it, and says in advance she'll push it off on the other? (And isn't this just a heavy-handed way of saying moms shouldn't work?) And what kind of man blabs about this weird situation to his ex-girlfriend, anyway?

I don't know, but I have only one thing to say. Best. Storyline. EVER.

Oh, and to the commenters discussing when the strip will end, I'm pretty sure Lynn Johnston has said it had a few more years left. I believe she has a health condition that's making her plan a retirement, but it's not imminent, and the last quote I heard was that the strip has definitely more than a year.

Is it sad that I came here to see if you'd posted on this strip?

Holy COW. All these years (okay, a couple) I've been reading FBOFW every single day at www.comics.com, in black and white, and ALL ALONG they've been at ucomics.com, and in colour! Gael's reference to "orange hair" had me stumped until I clicked the link. Aurrgh, when I think of it...
