OK, just as I'm enjoying some total Therese-bitching and possible Liz-homewrecking over at "For Better or For Worse," Lynn Johnston throws a total curveball. Does anyone get this Sunday FBOFW strip at all?
April and her dad are fishing (I assume -- April is looking less and less like herself these days). She catches a bunch of huge fish and throws them back. Dad is thrilled, helps her fish, takes photos of the event, smiles and laughs the whole way. As they're walking home, she exalts in her day. And suddenly a dark cloud comes over her father.
What? WHAT?? Is he pissed because she had better luck fishing than he did, as supposed in the FOOBiverse? He's jealous of his own teen daughter? Is he mad because she threw the fish back and they're walking home empty-handed? Is he mad because she says it's the best fishing day she ever had, thus casting aspersions on other fishing days with dad? And what the heck is in that green bag slung over his shoulder -- did he bring the family's garbage along on a fishing trip? Was he going to drown a small animal? I hate to get all Comics I Don't Understand, but...
Back to Liz lusting after 50-year-old wimpy Mr. Mom Anthony tomorrow, I hope.

I'm WAY overthinking this, I'm sure, but I don't like the Therese-bashing. It sounds like "it's unnatural for a woman to prefer work over infant care," same old reactionary stuff.
You're not overthinking it, it's pretty transparent. Ack.
For those of you who have just joined in on FBOW, or who at least have not read it since "Liz, who called herself "nizzie" as a baby,and was referred to as "Lizardbreath by her then obnoxious teen brother... yes, I have been there since the beginning... Anthony and Liz were sweethearts in high school, so therefore are the same age which is roughly 35....just as Liz was beginning to think she had made a mistake breaking up with Anthony, he informed her he was marrying Therese...the rotten. and FYI, this is the last year that the strip will be written, as soon as Lyn ties up all the loose ends.
She is going to have a lot of loose ends to tie up.
I LOVE when I see FOR WORSE as the byline for these entries cos I know we're gonna get a hate-on for FBOFW. I only ever read it occasionally, I'm two dogs behind, who the hell are these people, etc., but still enjoy all your puzzlement over here.
When I read it, I took it as this was the first fishing trip together. Reasoning (1) she is very excited with the first fish (2) she says that one of them is the biggest one yet (3) the picture taking seems like something you would really only do the first time. So, when she said this is the best fiishing trip she had been on, and it was probably the first, explains the look on the dad's face. It's like when a kid says "when I was younger" meaning when he was 7 as opposed to 9.
WHAT? FBOFW only has one more year?!?! Is this true?
And, April needn't pursue already-married-with-bad-moustache Anthony, her ex HS sweetheart. She should track down hot, available, dashing helicopter pilot Anthony.
