Jane says...she's done with Sergio

Jane Pratt is resigning from Jane Magazine? (NY Post requires registration, use Bugmenot.)

Has she finally realized that it's just no Sassy? Was she upset that the readers voted she should have short dark hair when she prefers long blonde hair? And where will they find another editor named Jane?

I just never took to Jane the way I loved Sassy. Sassy felt smart and hip, Jane feels sad and forced, like someone trying to be young but not really feeling it. I've even passed up $5 subscriptions to Jane because it's just so inept. But a part of me would love to see Jane round up Margie, Christina Kelly, Kim France and the rest of them and give Sassy one last shot.

Best sentence in the story: "Her latest issue is the magazine's first All Naked issue."

Oh GOD, I just succomed to the $5 subscription! I'm not feeling Jane, either, not since the first year it was out, but...that cute bag! I signed up for the cute bag!

I loved Sassy. Jane was trying waaaaay too hard. That episode of Daria hit the nail on the head. Didnt she try to sue the Daria people?

I miss Sassy too, but the problem with Sassy was...it wasn't corporate enough. And that's why it died. And that's why another Sassy will never happen in this day and age. It makes me weep, but there it is.

Jane struck me as the "trying to keep Sassy style as much as possible, while actually kowtowing to the corporate demands so the magazine can actually SURVIVE" compromise. Which I guess is why I still go buy a mag or two in the stores from time to time.

Even if they rehashed the ol' "Let's have a writer try out these sex/mancatching tips and show that they don't work" article again in the most recent one, only done much worse than the one in Sassy.

BUST is actually much closer to the spirit of the old Sassy than Jane ever was ... they (BUST) are a little too "Church-of-the-Hitachi-Magic-Wand," and they keep lauding people like Tori Amos instead of Kim Deal, but whatever -- it's a good mag, and I only wish it were monthly instead of quarterly.

Bust is bi-monthly now.

Also, Jane Prat works my nerves. Christina Kelly didn't last for very long at YM. Shame.

JANE was never as good as Sassy because every celebrity profile in JANE was an attempt to say, "We love this celebrity, we saw her eat a WHOLE ICE CREAM CONE during the interview so she can't possibly have an eating disorder, and plus she said doesn't have an ED OR a coke problem, and since we're BFF, we would TOTALLY know." Yuk.

And I had no idea she tried to sue the Daria people! That was the best episode ever.

Jane Pratt is totally heinous. She baled on Sassy long before the magazine was sold to Petersen. Though we usually equate Sassy with Jane Pratt, it was actually Christina Kelly who was the voice of Sassy.

Jane was just never quite as good and, of course, Christina got canned at YM because she was just too Sassy.

Would Sassy magazine ever have had features on non-talents like Britney Spears. I think not. They have probably done issues on hillary duff and the Olsen twins as well. Kill me.
