Letter from London

A lot of the folks on Metafilter were pretty appalled by this Letter from London to the terrorists, but I won't apologize for saying I liked it quite a bit.

It was shattering to hear that King's Cross was the station that suffered the most in the recent attacks. I have fond memories of Rob and I meeting a friend there and almost getting lost in its huge anteroom, and also of gathering around a map there to excitedly plan our journey with friends Lisa and Sue when we took the train to London from Ann's wedding in Cambridgeshire.

It's an amazing Tube station, and managed to do for me what the NYC subways could not, somehow live up to my mental picture of every majestic and impressive train station I envisioned in every children's story I read in my sheltered suburban childhood. Although I'm an American, I feel proprietary about the Tube in general, and King's X in particular. London goes on, London will always go on.
