Pop Shoppe!

Tara shares that the Pop Shoppe is back! Who remembers this along with me? Stores where you could go and pick out your pop (I'm from Minnesota, we don't say "soda") bottle by bottle, filling a case so you might have as many different flavors as you had bottles.

If I remember correctly, we got it at Summit Farms Dairy in Vadnais Heights, Minn., where we also got our milk. Since milk and pop are so heavy, they would send it around on a conveyer belt and carry it out to your car. And I so clearly remember their theme song, which I reproduce here in its exact form: "Pop Shoppe, doodley-opp, da-de-oddle, Pop Shoppe!" (Oh, OK. But in my head, it sounded something like that.)

Anyway, according to this article in Canadian magazine McLean's, the Pop Shoppe has returned with only seven of its many flavors -- black cherry, grape, orange, pineapple (yum!), cream soda, root beer and lime ricky (I don't remember that last one, but with a name like that, you'd think I would, huh?). Here's the Pop Shoppe site, with news about where it's available. I'm not 100% sure, but it seems from scanning the site like they don't have their own stores now, but sell it in stores. It's only in Canada now, but it seems like they have plans to return to the U.S. too. Good news, eh?

We lived in Minnesota for a few years when I was a kid. I remember Viking Pop. We loved that stuff. It came in a zillion bizarre flavors and we'd be filling up cases with odd soda flavors. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

First: Minnesotans use the term pop like us canucks... LOVE IT.
Second: seems to me I could always get pop shoppe pop in canada. But happy that it will be more 'mainstream'.

I have a case of the old bottles, the originals, we found them in an old run down barn on a fram. I have the case they came in and all. I often wonder if they are worth anything. I think that was all before my time, and there is so very little on the net about them. These bottles came from Denver, CO. Still cool to have them.

Anonymous,
I, also have a case full of empty bottles, found in an old shed on Kansas City property I purchased. I also am wondering if there is any value.

I grew up in Minnesota and grew up on Viking soda. Yes soda, I've been in Las Vegas for many years. Today I went to a Rocket Fizz store where they sell lots of different brands. I picked up some Pop Shoppe soda, cola and root beer.
