Hair apparent

Aw, Crissy dolls! I loved mine. If you'll remember, she had the retractable long red ponytail, and a crank in her back that you could turn to make her hair get short again. You kind of had to play with her on her own, since she was a giantess compared to Barbie and other smaller dolls.

I don't remember her cousin, Velvet, but one poster says she always thought Velvet looked like Jan Brady. Decide for yourself: Velvet. Jan.

Here's another great Crissy memories page, complete with photos of Crissy, Velvet, a friend named Mia, and their Irish friend, Kerry. I think Crissy was the only one who really had an exceptional face, though.

Best quote from the FeelingRetro page: "My brother was tormenting me by playing keep away with my chrissy doll. He started slinging her by her retractable ponytail and all of the sudden she rocketed across the yard. There stood my brother with her ponytail still in hand. I don't remember what punishment he got -- but he deserved it!"

I loved my Velvet doll! I still have her, complete with her original dress and a purple hot-pants outfit. I spent many happy hours playing with her. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

Jan Brady looks, a porn-star name. How can you miss?

For my birthday last month, my sister gave me a "Crissy & Velvet Hair Fashion Tote" (like this one). She hadn't even known until I opened it that there were clothes inside. I was all set to bring my Crissy doll home and start a geeky little clothing collection for her - until I learned my parents sold her when they moved last year.

Oh well; I left the clothes for my niece to put on my sister's Velvet doll (who's still around), and the tote is perfect for carrying my knitting.
