Unreal

If anyone ever asks you for the difference between the early, actually good seasons of "Real World" and the pile of dung the show has become, go ahead and tell them this.

In the first season of "Real World," Julie spent a night outside on the streets with homeless Darlene to try and understand what it was like to be homeless and poor.

In the 2005 season of "Real World Austin," Johanna stole a rose from a homeless man on the street.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up right there. And as much as I'd like to attribute it to the expansive hearts of my (Julie's) generation vs the spoiled snots of today's generation, it's just not true. MTV is intentionally seeking out kids whose cup size and/or alcohol tolerance levels are higher than their IQs. Kids who don't read anything other than the instructions on a condom (maybe) and whose only experience with voting is as it relates to "American Idol." Kinda sad.

WOW! So well put! It disgusts me to watch this get worse and worse every year. Well, I don't really watch it. I read about it on TWoP, but the people that they choose still disgusts me! I'm wondering how Lacey made it onto the show this season.

I agree! Remember San Fran and the cast member in Med School????? Can you imagine ANY of the new cast mates in Med School? And I don't remember house locations being picked based on how close to the bars they are. (But I do like watching the new seasons and feeling very happy I never experienced the college party scene.)

God, the "boys just wanna party and boink as many chicks as possible" thing is GETTING OLD.

Lacey is a nosy busybody and is there to provide narration.

Krista: The med student, Pam, married Judd and they just had a son. No word on whether they named him Pedro, which they once said they would do.

Judd is the creator and one of the producers of The Life and Times of Juniper Lee on Cartoon Network. She's a Chinese-American kid who fights monsters. My kids really like it. It's cool to see that he's made good with the cartoonies.

HIV, a physical disability, any sort of chronic disease (and actually dealing with it, not drinking and smoking enough to kill a healthy person, let alone one with cf). I remember a cast member was a cancer survivor in the 2nd NY season, which really intrigued me, but then they never even mentioned it again.

Of course, I am being inaccurate as it seems statistically likely from all the promiscuity and stupidity someone must have at least one std....

(wow, i sound prudish) (love the blog!)

I guess you didn't watch season 3 and Pedro living with AIDS. Half of the people here are talking about that season and you chime in with that comment. Sigh.
