You take the good, you take the bad
Is there any reason why "Facts of Life" isn't on DVD yet? I mean, really.
There are eleventy-seven zillion seasons of "Dark Shadows" on DVD. They'll crank out four seasons of "The Brady Bunch" this calendar year alone. And no "Facts of Life"?
TVshowsonDVD has reported that a "Facts" Christmas episode will be among the shows released in a special package of classic Christmas episodes, but that's it. Come the heck on!
We need big, fat, multi-season packages of these episodes, with commentaries from Mindy Cohn and Lisa Whelchel! We need bloopers and old commercials! We need the inside dirt on the episode where Natalie has sex for the first time (they wanted Blair to do it, but Lisa Whelchel refused to even be in the episode, due to her strong religious beliefs)! We need Geri Jewell and her terrible jokes! We need to know if Nancy McKeon still talks to any of the rest of them! We need embarrassing shots of George Clooney with his mullet!
When "Facts of Life" had been on two years, I enrolled at my all-girls high school, and I can tell you, having a show like that around in the 1980s made us feel like we weren't complete freaks. Same-sex schools were not shown anywhere, not in the pages of Seventeen and certainly not on TV. My school wasn't a boarding school, but just to see girls in uniforms, in all-girl classes, it was a bit of a balm for the teen years, when being different was the worst thing you could do.

I was just searching for this yesterday. I would pay some serious cash for that.
Interesting fact: Charlotte Rae was the only cast member to be nominated for an Emmy (in 1982). Cloris Leachmen has been nominated for 19 Emmys in total, and has won 7. Oddly, none for her time on "Facts of Life". A shame, no?
If you happen to have Comcast digital cable, I've seen Facts of Life listed under the Tube Time section of On Demand. (It also has Diff'rent Strokes!)
I always liked the fact that it was Mindy who lost her virginity first on the show (or at least was the first to admit it!) How often does the big girl in the cast get the best sex life? I never knew she got the story line because Blair didn't want it... how interesting!
I fully agree. Other shows that should be on DVD include Hey Dude and Herman's Head. Am I asking for so much?
