In the midst of death we are in life

Domilise's, the tiny neighborhood po' boy shop where I made Rob and Todd go on our final day in New Orleans, survived Hurricane Katrina. Something about that heartens me.

I can still picture us standing in that jam-packed little place last May, waiting in line forever, reading tattered newspaper reviews on the wall and trying to figure out our order. We finally got our juicy, dripping sammiches, and there was not a single place to sit down, so we took them out to the rental car and ate there. I had to run back in and get napkins, which were desperately needed.

It's a wonderful little neighborhood joint, a piece of the city that made it special, and the fact that it exists still puts a little strength in my soul.

I love when you write about places that mean something to you. You have a real way of bringing them to life. And I'm happy to hear that this place survived.

I linked to your best/worst commercial article on my website (well, diary) today! You're awesome!
