Reaching for the stars

Talk about reaching for the stars: An alumna of my all-girls Catholic high school, who graduated a year before I started there, is now an astronaut. She's supposedly going up on the space shuttle Atlantis in 2006.

It's kind of weirdly fascinating to think that someone who once wore the same ugly school uniform (and saddleshoes) and wandered the same halls, hung out in the same cafeteria as the rest of us, will now be seeing the earth from space. Just like they told us back in those days on AfterSchool Specials, girls can grow up to do anything.

Whoa, that's pretty inspiring. Hail, Derham Hall!
