Boston baked beans, the candy

I was never a huge fan of Boston baked beans, the candy, but they're described incredibly well in a book by a favorite author of mine, and when I read that scene, I always get an irresistable urge to go eat some.

They have kind of an awesome Web site. Remember on Mr. Rogers when Picture Picture would show a film about what goes on inside a factory, whether making mattresses or English muffins or whatever? The Boston baked beans site has a kind of similar thing showing how they make their candy. I love this kind of thing.

Turns out BBBs are made by Ferrara Pan, which also makes a number of cardboard boxed candies, including Red Hots, Lemon Heads, Atomic Fireballs, Jawbusters and a variety of gummi candies.

If you watch enough episodes of "Unwrapped" of the Food Network, you will eventually know how EVERYTHING is made. And you will be hungry.

I love Boston baked beans, but they're usually so hard to find.

The Ferrara Pan factory is located only about 2 miles away from my house! When the wind is blowing from that direction, you can tell what they're making at the time by the smell. Mmm...

How fun! I love to see how things are made, too, I'll have to check that out.

Also, Gael, I wanted to mention that I linked to you today as one of my Fairy Blogmothers (ie people who inspired you to start your own blog). You have no idea who I am, so I don't expect you to get all excited or anything ;-) but I wanted you to know that I appreciate your work here on the blog!
