Makin' bacon

Did you see the "Desperate Housewives" episode where Lynette had to eat a pound of a client's raw bacon so that her boss and her husband Tom would stop making stupid bets?

Watching Felicity Huffman down the bacon was pretty disgusting, but maybe it was just Uncle Oinker's Gummy Bacon. Mmm, strawberry flavored!

I didn't have time to be disgusted by the scene because I was too busy wondering what they gave her to eat instead of bacon -- I knew they wouldn't risk poisoning their actress with raw meat! My mom and I did ultimately decide it was some sort of candy.

"Raw" Bacon, as you call it in the USA, is not really raw - it's cursed. This kind of bacon is consumend in many European countries as-is. I ate lots of "raw" bacon as a kind, and never had any kind of poisoning; i never even heard of anyone having a poisoning from eating "raw" bacon.

Again, this meat is cured with salt, and then air-cured and possibly smoked. It doesn't have anything to do with your raw chicken breast, for example.

If you've been raised in a culture where eating "raw" bacon is a normal thing, you would not find it discusting at all. On the other hand - many people in Europe find Cherry flavored soda or Peanut Butter with Jelly terrible. Strange, eh?

The bacon is cursed? I don't know that I'd want to eat cursed bacon. You could get some kind of disease or spell or something.
