Ramona forever!

I wrote a Test Pattern entry about Ramona Quimby. Not only is author Beverly Cleary coming up on 90, but her books are being re-released, and Ramona is moving (slowly) to the big screen.

Oh no. Not a Ramona movie. At least Beverly Cleary is involved. They better not cast an adorable, very cute little girl as Ramona.

I remember the Ramona tv show. It was pretty good. Sarah Polley looked like Ramona should. And the show stayed true to the stories.

Now I want to dig out my books. Thanks for the story.

Good article! I love the Ramona books. I gave the series to my cousin for her birthday last year but I had to reread them before I could send them!

You know, I totally thought Beverly Cleary was dead. Like, I thought she had been dead for years. I have no idea where I got that.

The Ramona TV show was really good, actually. If the movie is as good as the TV show, it won't be too bad at all -- although I really hope they intend to do a live-action film instead of trying to animate it.

Oh, I love Beverly Cleary so much, it's ridiculous. And Ramona is one of the best characters ever. Have you ever read Cleary's two memoirs? They're wonderful.

ALthough I was 17 when the show started, I used to watch Ramona. I love Sarah Polley, and she was just perfect. I can't name any actress that should play her in a live action, I just hope they capture the ordinary-ness of Ramona that makes her so wonderful. Don't make it slapstick. Please don't make it a slapstick.

I loved loved loved Ramona, and devoured every Beverly Cleary book. Every time I see a girl with really curly hair I always think of Ramona being envious of the girl with the "boing boing" curls. I wish I still had those books!

There was a Ramona show many many many years back starring Sarah Polley...the same Sarah Polley that kicked Zombie butt in Dawn of the Dead.

Beverly Cleary is hands down still one of the best children's authors, along with Catherine Woolley (who sadly died last year at age 100). Even her teen books are good. And Judi is right, her memoirs are great and highly recommended. I'm so glad she is still alive and is having a say in the Ramona movie.

The TV series was pretty close to the flavour of the books, I thought. A Ramona movie could be an absolute gem - or, I fear, another disappointment of a "children's book to movie experiment."

I remember laughing out loud at Cleary's books. (As a child and later as a parent myself.)

The illustrations were good too. I remember one picture of a lady talking to Ramona, I think. She squats down to "be on the child's level." Ramona, taking her cue, squats down too.

one of my proudest possessions is a "Leave it to Beaver" novelization written by Beverly Cleary. I've never done the research to see if this was before her own series books started, or contemporaneous with the early Henry Huggins and Ramona books. it's even credited to her name, not a house name.
