As an astute commenter pointed out, "FBOFW" cartoonist Lynn Johnston's real-life husband has left her for someone else.
While that won't be reflected in the new hybrid strip, it apparently has given her more time to work a little more new content into her recycled strips, or so says Editor & Publisher.
While I do feel sorry for Johnston -- it must be tough to end a marriage semi-publicly, and this was her second husband -- I secretly kind of wish she WOULD have worked it into the strip. Can you imagine? John leaving Elly for someone...hmm...the mother of one of the kids' friends? That neighbor she always walks with? DEANNA?
It would certainly make for a more interesting plot than another week of Michael's musings.

I think Liz's perennial problem of relationships ending because she's kicked to the curb was eerily prophetic. Maybe Lynn is trying to tell us that she's not Elly, but...Liz Patterson, c'est moi!
My vote for John's new woman is Kortney. That character is like the gun over the mantelpiece...
Gael, Check the news bites on the FBorFW site. There's a selection of past strips that give the background to Liz and Anthony. I had forgotten...Teenanthony was actually worse than Granthony!
And Jenna Fischer has separated from her husband James Gunn... (apropos of nothing, I'm just mentioning it)
It'd be more fun if Elly left John for Deanna. Just sayin'.
