For WON'T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR?

I don't get this FBOFW at all. So Jim is dying, maybe, yet we're focusing on Elly's neighbor Connie?

And how in the world would Elly envy a single mom her "freedom"? Sounds like a single mom would be lucky to have a free moment. Raise your hand if you suspect Lynn Johnston, in the throes of her husband leaving her for another woman, is thinking to herself that life without a man suddenly doesn't sound that bad, and putting those thoughts into Elly's head.

Also, Connie looks like a cross between the Church Lady and John in drag in panel three.

That is exactly what I thought! Lynn Jonhston's husband left her, and now this storyline is coming along about envying a divorced woman's freedom (plus it lets her go into some past strips that she wants to use). It makes me wonder what other strips are influenced by her life like that. Anyway at this point, I wish she would either just end it or keep going. This limbo stuff is like watching a never-ending clips show of your favorite sit-com.

Lynn Johnston's husband is leaving her? Poor lady.

That's an old strip, so unless her husband left her a long time ago, there's no connection.

I kind of wish they would just run the old strips without the hybridization. I used to love them...

As a single mom I can tell you that there IS a small degree of freedom involved in not having to consult someone else every time you make a parenting decision. Also? Less laundry. Having said that, though, I NEVER GET A BREAK. So keep moving, Elly, nothing to be envied here.

I've been wondering about the influence of the divorce, too, beyond the surprising amount of new content.

Life without husband = great. Life with new girlfriend = amazing.

I highly doubt this is the case especially considering how many collections of FBOFW books there are on how Elly always felt trapped, etc.
