Oregon has the nation's only assisted-suicide law, and the Oregonian has a nice multimedia package on a woman, Lovelle Svart, who used it to end her life after suffering with smoking-caused lung cancer.
I only wish it had more stories in print, as I read fast, but am too impatient to sit through all those videos.
The reader comments are mostly loving and supportive, but a few people freak out and essentially call her a murderer or beg her to find Jesus. I am Catholic, but I just can't think God will be that angry with the person who has suffered so long and finally slips out of the world in peace. And the doctors and lawmakers who help her go have all my respect. Bravo, Oregon.
