Hee haw indeed

When my parents took me with them on a business trip to Nashville in the 1980s, we stayed at the Opryland Hotel, adjoining the Grand Ole Opry. While there, we attended a taping of "Hee Haw." No, really. Yeah, I know. It was kind of fun, though, Minnie Pearl and all.

But the poor kid who had to wear these Hee-Haw overalls would have been the uncoolest kid in school, in any school.

Notes one comment: "And by all means, wear your Hee-Haw overalls without a shirt to complete the look."

Gael,

Those overalls were sort of popular with the little kids, and I don't recall anyone getting beaten up or severely teased over them; the reaction was kinda "Oh, okay." Of course we're only 30 minutes from Nashville and 30 minutes from where they were still raiding literal moonshine stills as of nine years ago, so that may account for it.

We still kind of miss Roy Clark playing in the key of yellow. And you can tell exactly how old somebody around here is by mentioning Stringbean.

I have just outed myself to y'all, haven't I? Oh well.

Kiss that baby for us!

Yeah, um... I... wow... this is hard to say, but...

I had a pair of those exact overalls. Yes, really.

In my defense, I DID grow up in Texas and some of my family is awfully redneck-y. I think they were a gift from an aunt I only saw once a year. She's also the one that made handmade raggedy andy dolls for me. Lots of country in her...

I wore these, too. In brown. I come from a long line of rednecks; however, I wasn't raised in a rednecky area...

Thanks for the blast from the past, that's awesome. I had pants in this Hee Haw pattern, but they weren't overalls. I thought I was the coolest in those pants!

Sweet Mother of Corn, I had those overalls. I WORE those overalls. I wasn't beaten up on the bus, but I do remember kids shouting, "Hee HAW!" at me at the skating rink, once. I blame my father, who watched "Hee Haw" in our very Southern home, for warping my young fashion sense.
Strangely, though, I kind of wish I still had them...they were just that awesomely tacky.

I had those overalls also, but I was living in Oregon. My mom & I later moved to Tennessee, so they were much more appropriate there!

My sister and I both had a pair. We lived in the Ozarks in a town that has a fall festival called Hootin' an' Hollerin'. Alas.

You weren't cool UNLESS you had a pair of these. My brother had the blue printed ones, and mine were forest green printed. They were the bomb!

I had them too. In fact I wore out 2 pair and my mom cut them off in to shorts so I could keep wearing them. We watched Hee Haw every Saturday evening while eating dinner.
