Is it wrong that I'm kind of interested in JJ Abrams' upcoming monster movie, "Cloverfield"?
It sounds a little Blair Witchy, what with the small group of friends capturing the scares on video cameras, and I loved that whole concept. Not sure we'll get to see it in the theater, but I'm happy to wait for the DVD. Not a bad time to be a new mom these days, since even if you don't want to get to the theater, you aren't too far behind your movie-going pals.
Embarrassingly, I will probably also rent "AVP-R." It still cracks me up that this film came out on Christmas Day.

Cloverfield had an amazing preview, shown at screenings of Transformers. I was literally clenching my fists and pumping my arms up and down. I should also mention that 1) I am a woman, 2) I was playing hooky from work at lunchtime when I saw Transformers 3) There were only about 6 other people in the theatre... all dudes.
AVP was disappointing. AVP-R looks rentable but is getting bad reviews, yadda yadda. And yeah, the Christmas "anti-Christmas" release for all those ppl who want to see something violent on Christmas day. Whatever! I find Thanksgiving has become the bigger holiday for the more serious movie releases.
