In my hometowns of the Twin Cities, which I just visited last week with Rob and Kelly, there is a local burger tradition called the Juicy (or Jucy) Lucy -- two burger patties molded around cheese, which melts and turns moltenly delicious when cooked.
We have had Jucy Lucys at a bunch of Twin Cities spots, but Matt's Bar is our favorite. So when we saw the Food Network show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" was featuring a Twin Cities burger that looked like the Jucy Lucy, we figured it was at Matt's.
Wrongo. It was at a place called Casper and Runyon's Nook, which I have never heard of, despite spending a decade as a restaurant editor in the Twin Cities. And not only that, but it is RIGHT ACROSS FROM MY HIGH SCHOOL.
It has got to be a fairly new spot. Too bad we didn't know about it last week, or we'd have visited for sure.

My family makes something like that, which we call a German hamburger. No patties, just form the seasoned (onions, parsley, etc.) hamburger meat around a folded piece of cheese. Very tasty although probably not heart-healthy. I'll post the recipe if anyone wants it.
