Sunset Bowl strikes out

When we bought our house in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood, there were two delightfully goofy bowling alleys right around the corner. Leilani Lanes closed, but Sunset Bowl stayed open.

They serve beer in bowling-pin shaped bottles! They're open 24-7! What a wonderful place to eventually teach Miss Kelly about the wild vintage world that is bowling!

Except that they'll be gone before Kelly's even old enough to wear bowling shoes--the site has been sold to a developer. Damn it! Apparently there will be only five bowling alleys left inside the Seattle city limits now. This really makes me sad.

Gosh, let me guess what'll go up in its place. Ummmm ....... condos?

I'm starting to get pissed at Ballard.

Sunset Bowl had awesome karaoke. :-(

And have you heard that there are people petitioning to make the boarded up Denny's an historic landmark? Let's save Sunset Bowl and let the retail/condo folks have the Denny's corner!

Why is it that anything under 4 stories tall and/or built before 1990 is coming down around here? Does Seattle have no sense of preservation whatsoever? Argh!

My kids absolutely love Sunset Bowl. It was the first place they wanted to go when we got "home" from Japan. Alas....
