The super-fun world of Marlys!

I'm a big Lynda Barry fan, as many people know, but for some reason I forget to check out her Marlys Magazine. I do have Lynda Barry marked as one of my favorite eBay sellers so I occasionally check out the original drawings she's selling there, but I don't need to buy one, since we bought a personalized one back in 1999 when she was still offering them.

Marlys Magazine does link to her eBay auctions, but it has much more than that, including links to her recent Ernie Pook strips. My favorites are still the ones about Marlys and Maybonne.

It's an unfair world in which Paris Hilton is a mega-millionaire and Lynda Barry (I presume) is not. Who has given more to society, I ask you? Barry's strips strike at your heart, and they're better than a personal photo album for making you remember the agonies and ecstasies of childhood.

But isn't Paris Hilton an heiress? I realize that doesn't make anything any more fair, but on the other hand it's not like she got her money from people who thought she was giving more to society than Ernie Pook's Comeek.

I have been a tremendous fan of Lynda (and Marlys and Maybonne as well) since the late 80s. I just had the super great opportunity to take a class from Lynda here in San Francisco. It was called "Writing the Unthinkable!" and was just overwhelmingly positive, therapeutic, and fun. I believe that she just finished the class until the fall when she will be back on track to teach again all over the country. I found out about it through the Lynda Barry myspace page. Everyone should do it as it was wonderful...even if you aren't a writer!
