Not his own 'Roots'?

I loved "Roots," especially the scenes in Africa, and I heard Alex Haley speak once and was very impressed.

But I had no idea that much of the Africa info in "Roots" was borrowed from a book called "The African" by Harold Courlander. Now I need to find that book ($2 at Amazon!) and compare the two.

Someday I would really like to visit Juffure, in the Gambia, regardless of how accurate "Roots" was or was not.
