What about Prom, Blaine? WHAT ABOUT PROM?

Video of a Texas Prom-goer who was led off in handcuffs for wearing a skimpy dress.

I am so, so glad I went to Prom in the 1980s, when we all tried to look as much like Scarlett O'Hara at the Twelve Oaks barbecue as possible, and when the merits of hoopskirts vs. crinolines was an actual serious pre-prom debate! Bless you, Jessica McClintock. Look, they still have a whole section on their site labeled Ball Gowns.

I'm glad I went to the prom in the 80's too! My mother would have DIED if I had tried to wear something like that!

I never even wore a bathing suit that covered less than that dress did! Laura Ashley provided the pattern for my very, very modest prom dress. There was a LOT of taffeta.

The school guidelines said no more than 1 inch of midsection could show...apparently she misread that as 1 foot.

My prom was in the mid 90's so there were no real crazy trends at the time. I wore a nice, simple cream colored long dress. So, I won't ever look back at the picture and be embarrassed. Plus, I went to a private school so, there was no way I would be allowed to wear anything extreme.

The saddest thing about this story is that the dress is hideous -- the color is ugly and the way the ruffled thing comes out of the back of the skirt -- bleah. Not worth getting arrested over!

I'd think she had more of an argument if they hadn't sent out what appeared to be pretty specific guidelines about what would be allowed. This is going to make me sound like a prude old lady, but I'm always sad when girls act like their freedom of expression is being violated because they aren't allowed enough of their flesh. I know they all want to look hot for the prom, but geez -- have a little dignity...

Tracie: You don't sound like an old lady at all! I completely agree with you! My biggest question here is: Why the hell would this girls parent(s) even allow her to wear that to the prom???

Looks like she hacked some curtains down with a hunting knife...
