I can't be the only one who thought for a second that this "For Better or For Worse" strip meant that Liz was knocked up.
Oh, I know, I know, she's far too saintly, but who thinks about needing a babysitter before they're even married?
I guess the babysitter needs could be for Francoise, but she seems to be getting along fine without Step-Grandma Elly stepping in.
Note that Elly does not seem as thrilled to sit for the upcoming Liz-Granthony spawn as she has been for Robin and Merry. Favorite child syndrome, much?

They were discussing the possibility of Liz being pregnant on Gene Weingarten's chat on Washington Post yesterday, but I always figured it would never happen. The Golden Vagina will never be sullied before the vows are said, donchaknow.
You were absolutely NOT the only person who thought Liz was knocked up at first. Deanna's offer of help is downright ominous, and there's something scarlet lettery about how Liz is drawn in the last panel...
You weren't the only one. I thought it, too!

When it comes to a first child, Patterson women are not that saintly. The Pattersons have a long-standing tradition of becoming pregnant almost instantly after marriage, usually without letting the husband know she has begun the baby-making process. Deanna Patterson was pregnant before her honeymoon and claimed she did not know how birth control worked, in spite of the fact she is a trained pharmacist. Elly Patterson was pregnant shortly after her marriage and claimed not to know how it happened. Elizabeth is just getting ready for her turn at a planned "surprise" pregnancy, assuming that she isn't already pregnant.
I'm voting "shotgun" on this one, too. Time will tell.
I figured it was because of Granthony's daughter - so they could have some alone time!
She lived with Eric in Mtigwaki, so I think her "saintly" status is already history. I vote for adoption of the stepdaughter but not a shotgun wedding.
