I had one of those. When I would shave the ice it would always wind up with piece of the toy's plastic shaved up in it. Another childhood diappointment like my Evel Knievel action figure and cycle that wouldn't wind up and launch out of its launcher. :(
I had this! It wasn't that hard actually. If I recall there was a crank in the back that you turned to shave the ice. I remember being really sick once and my mother made me ginger ale sno cones to rehydrate me.
Oh, awesome! Had it, and used it. And my mom always made the syrup herself, with a pack of Flavoraid, sugar, and about 2 cups of water. From the picture, it looks like they still do it that way. We had four kids to share the work, but never enough ice cubes in those days before ice makers were ubiquitous. (It takes a LOT of ice cubes to make a decent-sized sno-cone.) Now that I have one, I kinda want this...
I'm an entertainment editor at MSNBC.com, and have maintained Pop Culture Junk Mail since August, 1999. The New York Times called the site "one of the best places to explore pop culture online," and Entertainment Weekly included it on their Top 100 Web Sites list. If you like weird food, strange products, and 1970s and 1980s nostalgia, PCJM is your home away from home.
I have a brand new BOOK, written with Brian Bellmont. "Whatever Happened to Pudding Pops? The Lost Toys, Tastes and Trends of the '70s and '80s." Buy it online, and follow our retro reminiscing on our GenXtinct blog,Facebook, and Twitter.

I finally got one when I was in my twenties but by then the excitement was gone. I ended up giving it to Goodwill.

I had this as a kid. As a matter of fact, my mother still has it in her garage somewhere.

I DID always want that, but never got it. My kids want it too. They're not getting it either. :) :)

Ah, yes. Another item from the good ol' "Mom Said No" list!
