Man, how can "Sesame Street" have more than 400 videos online and I remain unable to find the one that goes through my head whenever I see certain street signs?
It's just a montage of city street signs and the lyrics go something like: "No left turn! No right turn! What do you do? Gas! Car wash! Subway! Don't walk! No parking! Tow away zone!" and it ends with "Home sweet home."
I know at least one other person remembers this, because I found it mentioned online. But can anyone dig up the video?
Since I can't find that, I'll link to this 1972 classic that I saw mentioned on Twitter today. A loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of butter! Oh, for those days when kids could run off to the neighborhood store by themselves.

I think it's the Electric Company:

"The word is NO" has a bunch of those signs, but it doesn't end with "home sweet home."

Wait, I've got it. It was on ELECTRIC COMPANY, that's why.

I find myself quoting this one all the time. Any time someone mentions a loaf of bread, in my head, I always hear "... a container of milk, and a stick of butter." Sometimes I quote it out loud. And get either laughter or confused looks.
It's Electric Co.

OH! I remember that one too!
Jane Street
Jones Street
Park Av-en-ue!
Hoooome Sweeet Hoooome!
I'm sorry, I thought I posted this earlier but maybe I hit preview instead of POST. I think I found your song:

It's from the Electric Company, not Sesame Street.
"A loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of buttah" is my family's shorthand for "I have been told to remember something important and I will totally do so."
I love this one! (And of course, the psychadelic pinball one.)
Oh my gosh, I love the sign song, there are times now when I'm driving I still think of it. I found video from The Electric Company (I don't know if it was from TEC and Sesame Street or if it's labeled wrong, but whatever really) here it is.

Hope you enjoy. I know I did.
Oh, by the way, love the blog.

My mom (born 1957) remembers being sent down the street to the store to buy cigarettes for her mother and grandparents when she was in elementary school!
Megan - I do the same thing, "loaf of bread" always triggers the list for me too, funny! Glad I'm not the only one!
That was my Twitter post you were referring to. My wife and I argued for a good 15 years about whether it was a quart or container of milk before being able to track down a definitive answer (sad to say, I was in the quart camp. Who buys a container of milk? You buy a pint or quart or gallon. Plus quart makes sense rhythmically...loaf, quart, stick). Alas, thank god for the internet.
That was indeed you, AlexG! Thanks to you AND your wife. Do you know, I think I remembered it as a "carton" of milk?
We would often ask friends if it was quart or container, and too many times they'd answer "neither, it's carton."
