Had never seen Fanta grapefruit before. Didn't buy it since we only drink non-diet pop when we drink any, but now I'm curious. Not sure I've ever seen a grapefruit pop that wasn't diet before.
Have you had Squirt? Its yummy, grapefruit soda. I grew up in MI and it was everywhere. Its creeping out the East Coast, which is where I currently live.
I can't imagine Fanta putting out a totally disgusting flavor, fwiw.
I love grapefruit Fanta! I have a strong aversion to orange in all its manifestations, but Fanta gives me some love with the grapefruit and, once, some kind of tropical something, neither of which I can find anymore. :(
I thought Fresca was terrible when I was a kid, of course back in the 70's it was probably sweetened with something different than it is now. I like Fresca now, but now that I think about it, I haven't seen it in awhile. It might be gone again.
Shasta had a grapefruit flavor when I was a kid in the seventies. I loved it--sort of like squirt, but less sweet, and a weird bitter tone to it that I couldn't get enough of.
On the Fresca debate, in the States it's typically only offered in it's diet form, but if you can find bottles of Mexican Fresca from international markets and such it's usually the sugar sweetened variety. Oh, and there's also two varieties of Caribbean Grapefruit soda called Ting (regular and pink grapefruit.) I spend way too much time researching soda for my own good...
I'm an entertainment editor at MSNBC.com, and have maintained Pop Culture Junk Mail since August, 1999. The New York Times called the site "one of the best places to explore pop culture online," and Entertainment Weekly included it on their Top 100 Web Sites list. If you like weird food, strange products, and 1970s and 1980s nostalgia, PCJM is your home away from home.
I have a brand new BOOK, written with Brian Bellmont. "Whatever Happened to Pudding Pops? The Lost Toys, Tastes and Trends of the '70s and '80s." Buy it online, and follow our retro reminiscing on our GenXtinct blog,Facebook, and Twitter.

Fresca is alive and well in metro New York City.

An online grapefruit soda review (here) includes Kiss, Jarritos, Izee, GuS and Kickapoo Joy Juice.
Also, Faygo has 60/40 (grapefruit:lime); Shasta has one called "Zázz."
