In 1957, Oklahoma buried a new Plymouth Belvedere car for 50 years. They held a contest and whoever guessed Oklahoma's population in 2007 would win the car in 2007, when it was unburied.
The closest guesser, however, died in 1979, and the car? Well, it didn't quite make it out in great shape.
Not to be daunted, Oklahoma buried another car for 2057.

If the car had come up looking unblemished, it would have looked like any other restored car of that era and gone into a museum.
While we lived our lives and occasionally walked past the capsule over the last 50 years, it was down there deteriorating. Makes me feel like I held up pretty well!
