For MISTER RIGHT

Oh, barf. Does Liz's suitor really HAVE to be named "Mister Wright"? Do they have to fall in love in two seconds and stand around, mutely staring into each other's eyes?

The only good thing about this series of strips: Maybe being a cop, Mr. Wright can go find Howard and accidentally on purpose shoot him. Well, we can dream...

I enjoy many of your postings, but about the FBFW critiques - I gotta say, lighten up already. It's a simple, dorky strip that affords the reader a simple, dorky pleasure. There's no need to kill it off with a sledge hammer every time.

Lighten up already, anonymous. It's a simple, dorky blog that affords the reader a simple, dorky pleasure. There's no need to tell the author to lighten up every time she rolls her eyes at a comic strip that once gave her pleasure and was actually funny.

Weirdly, I like Mr. Wright. You'd think on the way up to Mitawhatsit he could have come up with a better explanation for why he needed to be in the neighborhood, so it's kind of cute that he didn't.

Cue the wedding announcement in 3.... 2....

I love you, Anon 2.

Hey, anybody but Anthony is great, as far as I'm concerned. Besides, if Liz hooks up with a local, she can be free of Milborough 4-evah!

Oy Vey already.

Gael--nice to see someone from from the Midwest who's out in the world and still looks in on things back home. Greeting from Grand Forks, ND.

At least it's not another strip devoted to Ellie's hot flashes. Sheesh, does that never get old?

There's a theory floating around that the author of the strips is planning on retiring it soon, and is trying to wrap everything up with a blissfully happy ending for all the characters. I'm starting to agree.
(I also think that, seeing the turn of events, the author was probably meaning to get Liz together with Anthony and just use the attempted rape as a plot device to that end, and changed her mind after it was pointed out by the readers just how sleezy that was.)

Oy vey, indeed.

My first time ever posting a comment on a blog and I've been accused of bashing Gael (Anon 2?). I haven't posted "every time she rolls her eyes" and am disinclined to try it again. I was only trying to state my appreciation for the lighter touch but I guess the sledge hammer wins.

Light 'n breezy is a hard emotion to convey in cyberspace. Sorry to have ruffled your feathers.

Eh, I enjoy the FBoFW stuff Gael puts up here, but to each her own :) I also think that Mr. Wright should spank him some Howard, who is oh. so. gross. And Anthony and his porn mustache need to stop being so put-upon and construct a life, already.

Seriously, anon, lighten up. No one accused you of "bashing." You may not post "every time" Gael works over FBoFW, but nor does Gael "kill it off with a sledge hammer every time." Take a page from that "light 'n breezy" book of yours and relaaaaaaax.

i agree with those who are in the "anybody but anthony" camp. and i also have to confess that i'm kind of a sucker for this storyline. yes, i know IT'S JUST A COMIC STRIP but i find myself hoping this is The Guy for elizabeth already.

Lynn's strip is kinda not so great now and I like the fact that Gael hits it hard. The readers have a right to ask for quality and to bitch and moan when they don't get it. Our anonymous poster can state their case but she or he may want to look elsewhere for commentary if this one's not to their liking. If Lynn can take Gael's critiques (I imagine she surfs the web for feedback) then I'll bet Gael can take her lumps too, right? I don't think she needs another poster acting as her posse.

BTW I can't wait to see Anthony's face when he gets the invitation to Mr. and (future) Mrs. Wright's wedding. You know it's coming but how loooong will we have to wait to see that? I have also heard that Lynn will be wrapping up the strip in the next coupla years.

I love anyone who picks on the strip, but then, I belong to an online community where that's all we do.
Hmm...maybe I'm the one who needs to construct a life.

Nah. Picking on the Foobian vision is much more fun.

Boy, wasn't today's strip with the rabbit and the dog a hoot? Ugh. Is there a particular reason why the Sunday strips must be completey moronic?

Lynn Johnston drove a FBOFW fan site off the web a few years ago after giving permission for it several years earlier.

Check out that link to read her threatening letter to the publisher who had helped build an online following for her strip.

Just waiting for Constible Wright to have a little brother or male cousin or something who is about April's age so that we can know that she'll find her own "Mr. Wright" as well.

Arg. Grumble.

I'm all for happy endings but even happy endings have messy parts to them.
