My pal Kim Reed has a very funny list of reasons why Santa, in "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer," Is Kind of a Dick. Well, now that I think about it...

THANK YOU! Geez, I've been saying the same thing for years! What lesson are we supposed to learn from this? He's mean to the elves, he says Rudolph can't be one of his reindeer, despite his obviously elevated flying abilities in comparison to the others his age. He only lets Rudolph join the team because he can selfishly use Rudolph for his own ends. He is a dick.
I hate it when the Reindeer coach says, "C'mon fellas, let's not let Rudolph play in ANY of our reindeer games." Of course, I didn't even notice how obnxoious it was as a child--it seemed perfectly normal for an adult (reindeer) to say that.
I'm an entertainment editor at MSNBC.com, and have maintained Pop Culture Junk Mail since August, 1999. The New York Times called the site "one of the best places to explore pop culture online," and Entertainment Weekly included it on their Top 100 Web Sites list. If you like weird food, strange products, and 1970s and 1980s nostalgia, PCJM is your home away from home.
I have a brand new BOOK, written with Brian Bellmont. "Whatever Happened to Pudding Pops? The Lost Toys, Tastes and Trends of the '70s and '80s." Buy it online, and follow our retro reminiscing on our GenXtinct blog,Facebook, and Twitter.
