For 1950!

See, the problem here is that, after the cabbage rolls, Deanna's mom wants to be with her and the kids, while Deanna's dad wants to watch TV with Mike.

THE HELL? Why can't they all be together? What kind of 1950s life is this, where the wimmenfolks are stuck taking care of the kids (after making dinner and, no doubt, cleaning up) while the men get to sit back and enjoy them some teevee? Mike has, as always, no motive or desire to spend time with his kids and wife, yet this all turns into some screed about he is done wrong by? Oh, the torture of watching Canadian television!

I always drive the many kms to go to my daughter's house so I can sit on my butt and watch TV. Why would I, her father, want to spend time with my daughter and grandchildren?

Will someone please buy these people a board game or something? Don't they have Trivial Pursuit in Canada?

board game? what's a board game? those of us who don't have tv just go moose hunting, or work on our igloos.

When did Mike turn into such an ass?

Hey, Canada invented Trivial Pursuit!

The issue of Canadian TV is pretty much moot, considering most of our channels are American anyway. (Unless you only get basic cable, then like 75% are Canadian.)

That's what struck me -- the women in the kitchen ((snort)), the men watching sports. Mike is too self-absorbed to be a husband, let alone a father.

Okay, the storyline today definitely proves the strip is stuck in the 1950's. I used to like Mike, but now his character aggravates me. Who made him god, and so much better than Deanna and her parents?! Gah.

Am I the only one who still remembers how Deanna TRICKED HIM into even becoming a father? Remember the "planned accident" with Deanna the Pharmacist going on her goddamned honeymoon sans birth control?? This marriage is based on a lie ...

So Mike, after ignoring his family for weeks, according to the "letters" can't even give up an evening to spend time with his inlaws because, obviously, he is a higher life form or something? If he's so behind on his deadlines that he can't give up a few hours one evening for a family dinner, perhaps he ain't such a great shakes as a writer after all. That or he's supremely passive-aggressive.

His wife, who works full time outside of the attic, also appears to be handling child care, housekeeping, cooking and entertaining herself.

But hey, she just doesn't matter, does she? Ditch him, Deanna! NOW.

In defense of Deanna, she didn't go on her honeymoon without birth control, she just wasn't aware that the benefits of the birth control pill are often negated by the simultaneous use of an antibiotic.

It seems you don't need to know a lot about drug interactions to become a pharmacist in Canada.

Hmmm ... I remember it as, she wanted to "change her medication," i.e. change birth control pills, but wanted to "let the old one get out of her system" first (which any college freshman going to university health services knows is totally unnecessary), and the bc-free cycle just "happened" to be the one in which she took her honeymoon -- i.e. it was much more design than ignorance.
