Mary as Worthless cook

Do not, repeat, do not, let Mary Worth cook for you. (Via Comics Curmudgeon.)

Tuna casserole? I remember that most as the joke dish from "Welcome Back, Kotter." Mean jokes about Julie's tuna casserole were always flying around.

As a Minnesotan, I've had plenty of casserole (only we call it "hot dish"), but putting tuna in it just sounds horrific.

No way; you've never had tuna casserole?!

Aw, I love tuna casserole! Elbow macaroni, cream of mushroom soup, mayonnaise, cheese, and tuna, with a topping of breadcrumbs or potato chips or whatever crunchy thing you've got on hand. Mary Worth's version is not particularly appetizing, it's true.

Ah. Clearly you are not a Southern Baptist. For the record - if it's tuna from a can, no matter what form, I don't eat it. But tuna casserole is a regular, common dish around the parts where I grew up, and you'd usually find several at any given church potluck.

Now, that jarred white fish stuff y'all consume . . .

How can you not have had tuna noodle casserole? To someone born in the Midwest, it is on of the four basic food groups (the others being beer, mayonaise and cheese). My nana used to call it "Bird's Nest Casserole." Get some macaroni, tuna, and cream of mushroom soup and hie thee to the kitchen!

Tuna casserole is delicious. The kind my family makes is just noodles, canned tuna, cream of mushroom soup, and a little milk. Very yummy.

Yikes, I live in Georgia, and recall Mom making it often during my childhood, primarily because it was a pretty inexpensive dinner. I always hated it, but if someone wanted to make me hate it even more, then just put peas in it. That'll get me running in the other direction!
