Deadspin has a great feature where they regularly check out the featured reader comment on ESPN.com and mock its simplicity.
At MSNBC.com, we trade off selecting reader forum quotes too, for showcasing on the front of our section. But we actually pick interesting, engaging quotes -- when a celebrity dies, there's almost always someone posting about a real-life experience they had meeting the late star, and relate how he/she was in person.
But it does seem like whoever picks the reader quotes at ESPN.com just grabs the DUMBEST quote ever. I almost always crack up at how Deadspin readers slyly parody them.
