Also, two commenters noted that it seems silly to have Secret Service code names that everyone knows, but the Chicago Tribune claims that "the monikers are a throwback to a time when electronic communications were not encrypted, and they no longer serve a security function."
Whatever. I still like to picture some big burly dude in sunglasses talking into his watch and saying "Renegade is on the move, repeat, Renegade is on the move."

That's interesting--my husband and I *were* wondering about the point of code names that are announced by the media.
