Mini Wheats hot tub

So I just saw the below commercial for the first time, and it kind of cracks me up. Every winter, some food product that should not be served hot tries to wedge its way into the "warm you up" product pantheon, and now it looks like Kellogg's Mini-Wheats is the latest.

I can take or leave Mini-Wheats on a regular day, but there's no way I would eat them with hot milk poured over them. Uck.

I've never been a fan of this either, but my dad says he always used to eat shredded wheat hot when he was growing up (at least in the winter). And they didn't even use hot milk, they used hot water! I have never tried this delicacy myself, although I do love me some mini-wheats.

Actually shredded wheat with hot milk (we usually just heat the cereal and milk in the microwave together) has been a traditional breakfast in my family for years. Sweeten with a little brown sugar, add some raisins..mmmm. My toddler loves it. I imagine this is much the same, just sweeter.

LOL--the frosted type of shredded wheat, no, I probably wouldn't have warm. But growing up, we used to make hot shredded wheat all the time. It's the consistency of oatmeal. Mmmmm tasty. :D

We had rhe large shredded wheat. My mother always poured hot water over it and then drained it off.A dietician told me this is a good way to serve it. Especially for small children and the elderly.

Gael,
I loved the commercial contest you used to moderate and was sorry to read of its demise. Especially as Target is running one of the best commercials I've seen in a while. So I'm passing this along JUST IN CASE the opportunity arises to resurrect the contest. Have you seen this one?

Dad is leaning over the entertainment console, backside in the air, apparently trying to figure out the cabling and asking his son whether the TV display is working. Son is holding the video camera, pointed directly at Dad, with Dad's bottom larger than life on the screen. Mom and two other brothers are also in the room, laughing behind their hands. The dialogue is simple but great. I love the youngest brother with his head in the pillows to stifle the giggles. I smile every time I see this.

Happy Holidays!
