OK, I must warn you in advance that this page features a truly scary photo of ex-Journey frontman Steve Perry, but I found it fascinating that he gave his ex-girlfriend, Sherrie Swafford, all the royalties to "Oh, Sherrie" even after they'd broken up.
I mean, I happen to love that goopy 80s song, although many people hate it, but you've got to admit it's probably made her a small fortune by now. It's also practically ruined the lives of everyone I know named Sherrie/Sherry/Shari, but that's bound to happen when a super-famous song shares your name.

What mystifies me is how that video ended up on a VH1 list of All-Time Cheesiest Videos, when it was actually meant to counter cheesy videos.
As a victim of Starship's "Sara," I don't have much sympathy.

Ooo...we named Sarah (or Sara) got such a shaft. Starship, Hall and Oates...even Fleetwood Mac's "Sara". Although Ben Folds's "Zak and Sara" is catchy.

Ok, I have a name...and it gets mentioned in a song...and whenever I hear this song I want to scream. And there are persons on this planet that think it's rather cute to have this song sung to me instead of just calling me by my name. Thanks a lot....I do feel for the Sherries and the Saras (not upset about being sung the Sara Lee cake- theme?) and the Roseannes and my dear friend, Barbara Anne...we deal with this problem and regret that our parents picked our names without hearing those songs first. gee wheez.
Think of all the songs about Candy. I hear all of them: New Edition, Cameo, Bow Wow Wow, Sammy Davis Jr (Candyman), etc. But I do like the Iggy Pop song. Sigh.

First of all, Sherrie does not have a small fortune from the "Oh Sherrie" song rights - after she split everything with the songwriters and producers, it ended up being about one penny per record purchase. She was my friend when I was living in her town. And, she still keeps in contact with Steve.
I HAVE TO ASK YOU, THE FRIEND OF SHERRIE SWAFFORD. HOW OLD IS SHE IN THE VIDEO? SHE LOOKS VERY YOUNG ALSO SHE IS A VERY PRETTY AND CUTE GIRL. I SEE HER AS BEING A REALLY NICE PERSON. IT IS GREAT THEY STILL KEEP IN CINTACT WITH EACH OTHER.
I love Steve Perry he is an awesome singer. My husband teases me all the time with polythene Pam.
