Living in a global village

Who says we Americans are insular and don't care to explore international culture?

Tonight I made us Senegalese Peanut Soup for dinner (from a cookbook I'm reviewing, though the same recipe is here), and in an unrelated bit of internationality, added the Setanta Sports Channel (soccer, rugby, hurling, lovely accents) to our DirecTV package. A cheap way to feel worldly.

I especially love how we don't quite know half the programs that are on Setanta yet. "Chelsea" I know, but "Chelsea v Werder Bremen"? "Levski Sofia v Barcelona"? "Galatasary v Bordeaux"? (Actually I know "Galatasary" from Rob's playing of The Fall song, "Sparta FC" ("We're not Galatasary, we're Sparta FC!").

I like making Dulce Le leche at home. My husband's family eats it spread on Saltines. (you put a can of sweetened condensed milk in a large pot of water and simmer for a really long time and it turns the milk into dulce le leche). But using that as an Oreo filling ---- yuck. Sweet on sweet, no way.

Holy God, I didn't even know there was a Setanta sports channel....

(If NYU had offered "Irish Studies" as a concentration at the time, I would have probably qualified for a minor when I was in college. So I perked right up at this.)

heh i'm a Yank living in Ireland at the moment... when i move back, my boyfriend will want to get Direct TV so he can watch his home sports ;)

Make sure you watch on Sunday the 18th... Setanta should be showing it... it's the GAA Senior finals for Gaelic football... watch irish guys run around in teeny tiny shorts... this year it's County Mayo vs. County Kerry :)
